Warning!

Participants in the Roof of the World Rally need to understand and accept that there are major risks involved in taking part. Some risks can be anticipated and some are bound to be unexpected and unavoidable. Participants must understand and accept the following terms and conditions of entry.

The Roof of the World Rally is 100 % Unsupported

We WILL NOT be providing back-up vehicles, mechanics, any form of medical assistance or any arrangements for medical assistance. We will provide no arrangements at any stage if participants become stranded financially or physically. We will not provide any guaranteed method of communication with the organisers. The organisers cannot be expected to provide assistance should some injury, accident or some unforeseen problem occur during the rally. We expect teams to do their own research to help them anticipate possible risks.

Participants undertake this Rally ON THEIR OWN

Some, but by no means all of the potential risks are as follows:

  • Car crashes – either through collisions or through terrain
  • Lack of adequate healthcare facilities
  • Lack of communication
  • Risk of sickness, disease, injury or death
  • A very real and particular risk of altitude sickness, especially in Tajikistan
  • Landmines
  • Risks associated with travelling through areas that are isolated, remote and extreme in landscape and climate
  • Other people – bandits, mafia, it cannot be predicted who we will meet and interact with on the rally
  • Uneven, unsurfaced, pot-holed, inferior ‘roads’, and the risks of using them in potentially unsuitable vehicles

  • All participants must be aware of the potential risks and prepare responsibly and accordingly

    Further important details as follows:

    1) The Roof of the World Rally is NOT A RACE

Racing is BANNED. This is a Rally not a Race. Furthermore, Rally participants are to abide the law of the land of the areas through which they drive. This obviously includes all driving regulations. If you break the law then you are responsible for the consequences.

    2) All Participants are ordinary tourists in the countries they visit

This means that it is the responsibility of all participants to behave appropriately in all countries they pass through. This includes CONFORMING TO ALL LAWS including (but again not limited to) driving, vehicle standards, entry and exit regulations, responsible behaviour, alcohol consumption.

    3) All participants are responsible for their vehicle

Your vehicle must adhere to safety and all related regulations in each country passed through. If the vehicle breaks down or is otherwise incapacitated participants are wholly responsible for any import duties and fines that need to be paid and any consequences arising from this.

    Finally:

This is genuinely a dangerous event to undertake, with a real possability of harm befalling someone taking part. Deciding to undertake the rally should not be done so lightly! You are 100% on your own and responsible for yourselves. The organisers claim no responsibility for any participant in any way at any stage of the rally. The risk of serious injury or death could be very high. If you are worried or do not fully accept the risks involved stay at home, this rally is not for you.
