Launching 12th July 2008
The organisers of the Roof of the World Rally, heading boldly into the unknown with their cups and saucers at the ready. After managing to haul an ice cream van and a Nissan Micra from London to Mongolia in 2007, (hopefully) nothing can stop them on their mission to take the great English tea house to the world! They will be undertaking this grand challenge in a 1992 Ford Granada with over 100000 miles on the clock, the perfect tea-dispensing, continent crossing beast?
This summer 3 friends from sunny Swindon will be embarking on an adventure of a lifetime. After acquiring a left-hand drive car for around £150 they will be driving almost 4000 miles through more than 15 countries spreading British tea (this is not a euphemism) along the way. Yes that’s right we have every intention of stopping, sitting down and sharing a nice cuppa with all the friendly locals we meet!
In the words of the team themselves: "We're three Australians all in our low 20s: James McEnaney, Greg Morgan and Tony Chan. James and Greg live in Sydney, and are on a year's break from their university studies to try to work out the secret of life (which in reality means working to find the money to pay for their university fees). Tony is a Teacher of English at a school in Buckinghamshire. We've got absolutely no mechanical knowledge, and we are expecting duct tape to solve most of our problems along the way. No, we're not ignorant of the enormity of the task which faces us - we are completely expecting a plethora of difficulties along the way, and will probably finish the rally with more plastic tape on the car than sheet metal."
This Italian trio is going all the way to Tajikistan with an old Citroën Xantia. They are ambitious, very much goal oriented but don’t know exactly what to expect when they will finally hit the road. They don’t have much clue on how to repair their car, but, hey, after all that’s not your biggest concern when you have to deal with Kazakh bandits! Is this going to be the beginning of an everlasting friendship or are they going to hate each other for the rest of their lives? Stay tuned to see how (and if…) they are going to make it!
