Very Rough Costs

Entry Fee

£160. The entry fee is required for things like public liability insurance as well as prizes and goodies for the launch. We will give each person who wants to take part a breakdown of exactly where this has gone. We do not make a profit. Infact we are likely to make a loss on running the rally - the entry fee just helps with some of our fees!

Visas

Example content image £200+ per team. Visas are a necessity and expensive. At the minimum visas will be required for Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan (if wishing to do the best part of the Pamir) and Tajikistan, anyone planning to visit more countries can expect to pay a fair bit more. We will be providing advice and assistance witth visas.

Petrol

£? This figure can vary hugely depending on your vehicle, route and fuel type. Europe is expensive – although you will be hard pushed to find any priced higher than the UK, with the possible exception of Turkey. Once you hit Russia and the Stans’ you should not pay more than 25p per litre. Costs go down if you use the dirty 76 octane stuff and diesel is almost universally cheaper then petrol outside of the UK. It will probably be your biggest cost and likely be at least £400 per car

Repairs

If your vehicle does not break down then it is too good to come. Gaffa tape and zip ties can cure all manner of ills but if something more terminal dies be prepared to spend a bit getting it fixed. If it dies altogether buy a Yak and carry on.

Bribes

You will be asked for bribes. Most can probably be avoided with an offer of a cup of tea and a hobnob, but you may occasionally have to shell out a few dollars

Return Journey

Example content image Flights from Dushanbe to London cost lots. A much better idea is to pop over to Uzbekistan and catch a flight back for a few hundred pounds. Onward travel could take you to Uzbekistan, China or for the truly adventurous – Afghanistan

Charity Donation

You have the potential to raise loads of cash through sponsorship for good causes. We ask any team that is tackling the rally to raise at least £500 for SWORDE-Teppa. Further details will be given out through the mailing list. A team is free to raise money for other charities of their choice, or to raise funds to help with their costs, above this basic figure.
